Little Cherubs Day Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework which focuses on the children as individuals and allow us to map their progress over the six learning areas and identify where they may need help. All paper work used to document the curriculum has been put together for the children by the Little Cherubs Team. Children’s folders are accessible to parents at all times and the child’s Key Person is always available to discuss any questions or address any concerns.
There are six main areas of learning:
· Communication, language and literacy development
· Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
· Physical development
· Creative development
· Personal, social and emotional development
· Knowledge and understanding of the world
The daily activities and play opportunities are planned through these areas and we try to work on the base of 80% child led or initiated. Staff encourage the children to be confident, independent and endeavour to develop their self-esteem.
Our staff help children to learn what is right and wrong.
Children are given the opportunity to be active indoors and out, as well as time to relax and maybe have a little rest.

At LCDN the relationship and communication with parents is paramount, and to ensure parents feel part of their children’s care, we have introduced a scrap book which goes home with each child at the end of the week. It contains photos and information on what has happened at the nursery during the week. These will also compliment our EYFS Planning.

EYFS Folders and Planning:
The Staff at LCDN has worked as a team and produced documentation to map each child’s progress as they work through the curriculum. It was important to us that the parents would understand the folders and be able to share the experience of observing their child progress and achieve their major milestones.
Each file contains an individual monthly plan (IMP) to highlight where assistance may be needed for each individual child. This will be discussed with the parents and any feedback will be documented.
Observations sheets are included and are broken down into long and short.
Short observations: Staff will observe a child while carrying out an activity and will be linked to the IMP and 6 learning areas.
Long observations: Staff will observe a child for up to 20 minutes and make notes on how they interact or achieve. These are also linked back to the 6 learning areas in great detail.
Photo observations: Each room is equipped with a digital camera to capture how a child is developing. These can also be used in the observation section of the child’s folder.
All observations will be reviewed by your child’s Key Person who will use the information to build your child's next IMP.
When a child is ready to move onto an older room, a Transition Report is written to ensure their next Key Person understands how a child has progressed and what they have enjoyed.
